Magpie Club
Run by a dedicated team of volunteers, this evening social club have been meeting fortnightly since 1967!
For nearly 50 years, Magpie Club has been bringing adults with learning disabilities together for friendship, fun and a chance to enjoy a great night out.
Based at the London Road Social Club, we meet every other Thursday evening in a relaxed and welcoming environment where everyone can feel part of the group.
There’s always something going on at Magpie. Our evenings might include games, crafts, bingo, live entertainment, themed nights or simply time to catch up with friends and have a chat. We also organise outings during the year, giving members the opportunity to get out and about, try something different and enjoy time together.
Some of our biggest highlights are the events that have become part of the Magpie tradition — including our annual seaside trip, summer BBQ and Christmas party. These are special occasions that members look forward to year after year and are a big part of what makes Magpie such a valued part of people's social lives.
The club is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who give their time to make Magpie a friendly, inclusive and enjoyable place to be. We’re always keen to hear from people who might like to get involved, whether you can volunteer regularly or simply have some time to help at occasional club nights, activities or outings.

For many of our members, Magpie is about much more than an evening out. It’s about friendship, independence, belonging and having something to look forward to. It’s a chance to see familiar faces, make new friends, try new things and enjoy being part of the local community.
New members are always welcome, and if you’re an adult with a learning disability, a family member or carer looking for a friendly local social group, we’d love to hear from you.
Could you help make Magpie even better? If you’re interested in volunteering with the club, we’d be delighted to hear from you too. There are lots of ways to get involved and you don’t need to make a huge commitment — just a willingness to help and have fun along the way.
