At St Albans Mencap, we are always looking for ways to make our SNAP holiday clubs as supportive, inclusive, and enjoyable as possible for the children and families who attend. Earlier this year, we asked parents and carers to share their feedback through our SNAP Parent Carer Survey — and we are delighted to share the results.

Overall Satisfaction

The response was overwhelmingly positive, with the vast majority of parents saying they were “very satisfied” with the quality of our SNAP clubs. Families told us they feel confident that their children are happy, safe, and well cared for during sessions.

Meeting Children’s Needs

Almost all respondents said that SNAP supports their child’s specific needs “very well” or “extremely well.” Parents highlighted the skill and care of our staff and volunteers, noting how activities are tailored to suit each child’s abilities and interests.

Inclusivity and Activities

Parents rated the inclusivity of SNAP’s activities as “excellent” or “good.” Many commented on how much their children enjoy taking part in activities alongside peers, developing social skills, and building confidence in a supportive environment.

Benefits for Children

When asked what benefits SNAP brings for their children, the most common responses included:

  • Increased confidence and independence
  • Greater willingness to try new activities
  • Improved social skills and friendships
  • General happiness and enjoyment

Parents also told us their children often sleep better and are more relaxed during SNAP weeks — a wonderful reflection of the positive impact these sessions have on their wellbeing.

Benefits for Families

SNAP isn’t just for the children — families told us it’s a vital source of support for them too. The most common benefits mentioned were:

  • A chance to focus on other children or family members
  • Improved mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Time to rest or recharge
  • Feeling supported and understood by staff and other parents

Suggestions for the Future

We also asked how SNAP could improve or expand support for families. The most frequent suggestions were:

  • More SNAP club sessions, particularly during holidays
  • After-school or evening clubs to offer more flexibility
  • Day trips or special events for children and families
  • More communication about what happens during sessions

We’re grateful for all these ideas and will take them into account as we plan future activities and funding priorities.

Thank You

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views. Your feedback helps us celebrate what’s working well — and make SNAP even better for every child and family who takes part.
