Evening Groups

SNAP's Evening Groups currently run on a Monday evening, during term time at the St Albans Mencap base (Unit 5, 181a Verulam). Our current evening sessions are based on Buy-Cook-&-Eat skills, encouraging the young adults aged 11-19 years of age to research and plan a meal together, before arriving at the supermarket to buy the necessary ingredients. They then work together as a team to prepare, cook and finally enjoy their meal.

A session at SNAP's Evening Group starts at 5pm and finishes at 8pm, with the charge for the full 3 hour session being £6 per child (SBLO), with an additional fee of £3 contribution towards ingredients.

A day at SNAP's Woodland Activities starts at 10am and finishes at 3pm, with the charge for the full 5 hour session being £10 per child (SBLO).

Venturers

SNAP's Venturers Group is a community activity based group for young adults with Mild Learning Difficulties, aged 14-19. It involves regular outings based on the teenagers interests, with a few of the previous activities including bowling, cinema, Phasels Wood, Quasar and a Summer visit to the seaside.
The Venturers Group are consulted and asked to put their ideas for future trips forward to ensure there is plenty of variety. Venturers often use Mencap's minibus or public transport to travel to their activity locations.

A day at SNAP's Venturers Group typically starts at 9:30am and finishes at 3:30pm (subject to activity), with the charge for the full 6 hour session being £12 per child (SBLO).
In addition Venturers pay for the entry fee to their chosen activities, and bring cash for a restaurant lunch, unless otherwise stated.

Buddying

SNAP's Buddying is a service that was initially set up to support a child/young person in accessing an activity or club that they may otherwise have difficultly accessing alone. For example, a successful buddy relationship was organised to support with the accessing of an evening's Brownies club. With the support of a SNAP buddy the parent didn't have to attend, and the opportunities were widened for the child.

A session with a SNAP buddy can be tailored to the hours required in order to suit the needs of the child/young adult, or the activity they wish to attend. The sessions are charged at a minimum of 2 hours, at £2 per hour, per child (SBLO).
In addition there will be a charge for the travel, and entry expenses of the buddy, if necessary which will be invoiced to the family termly.
