Pick and Mix is a scheme which has been developed by St Albans Mencap to provide adults with learning disabilities, a selection of activities from which to choose from. Activities are changed every twelve weeks and are planned by staff and clients. In this process, every client is equal and can make their own choices. The scheme has been running successfully for over five years.
Qualified and experienced staff are employed by St Albans Mencap to run the sessions. All staff have a Criminal Records Bureau Check and work in line with the Society's policies. St Albans Mencap also actively encourage other members of the community to access the sessions, either as volunteers or as part of work experience placements.
The Society aim to provide sessions in various accessible venues throughout the St Albans District. All of our venues are accessible for people with disabilities.
We aim to provide sessions for 6 full days per week. We currently run Pick and Mix sessions on Monday – Saturday although these sessions are still in the development stage.
Activities:
Mon: Educational Group (looking at subjects such as sustainability, IT
skills, Health and Safety)
Tue - Thu: Social Group (with activities such as arts and craft, cinema trips,
bowling, visiting theme parks etc)
Fri: Buy, Cook and Eat
Sat: Social Group (as above)
Sun: Pick 'n' Mix is not running.
The sessions cost £15 per day and £7.50 for the Cookery. If the planned session involves an expensive trip then extra funds are requested in advance.
